What do you love about living in Guernsey? Perhaps you have a favourite view, a special local restaurant, or a walk you take every day?
Whatever makes Guernsey special for you, VisitGuernsey wants to hear about it.
VisitGuernsey is asking locals to play a part in developing the island’s tourism business with its new Love Guernsey initiative: an online collection of insider information designed to help visitors make the most of their Guernsey experience.
“Last year we launched a campaign encouraging islanders to become ambassadors for Guernsey by passing on pocket-sized Love Guernsey information cards. We are now taking the campaign a big step forward by launching a dedicated web page which will feature islanders’ experiences and suggestions, giving visitors the chance to benefit from genuine local knowledge of Guernsey,” said Jason Moriarty, Trade & Media Relations Manager for VisitGuernsey promotions.
Islanders are encouraged to send their suggestions, stories, photographs, video files, sound clips and even poetry and children’s drawings to a dedicated Love Guernsey e-mail address at love@loveguernsey.net. All contributions will be reviewed by VisitGuernsey and published as a continually updated news feed on the Love Guernsey web page - www.loveguernsey.net
Contributions from local celebrities and public figures are already being sought for the Love Guernsey site launch, but Mr Moriarty was keen to stress that support from a wide cross-section of islanders is vital to the project.
“Everyone has a valuable contribution to make, the island has a multi generational appeal that we want to showcase,” he said. “Today’s tourists are sophisticated - they want to enjoy an authentic holiday experience and they place a lot of value on the insights locals can provide.
“The web page itself will become a fantastic vehicle to showcase the lifestyle and attractions of the island. Further down the line VisitGuernsey will also be able to use the suggestions of islanders in a range of creative ways to enhance our marketing activities.”
