Life in the Slow Lane for the World’s Fastest Man!

Formula One World Champion Jenson Button will soon be getting used to a slower pace of life after buying a home in Guernsey.

The British driver, who regularly reaches speeds of more than 200 miles per hour on the track, and currently leads the Formula One drivers’ championship, will have to put the brakes on whenever he’s in residence on the tranquil Channel Island.

Measuring six miles long and four miles wide, Guernsey has a speed limit of just 35 miles per hour on its roads - and 15 miles per hour on the Ruettes Tranquilles, a network of winding country lanes which give priority to walkers, cyclists and horse-riders.

The island offers 28 miles of coastal and clifftop walking paths, 27 different beaches and bays to explore, and a vibrant, sophisticated capital in St Peter Port … but no motorways.

“Guernsey is a place to unwind and enjoy great food and wine, rich heritage and breathtaking coast and countryside,” said Jason Moriarty, Marketing Manager – Trade & Media for VisitGuernsey.

“Our pace of life leaves time to appreciate everything the island has to offer - and it’s the perfect place for Jenson Button to take a break, relax and recharge his batteries.”
