The Nile

The Greek historian Herodotus wrote that ‘Egypt was the gift of the Nile’ and indeed Egypt would not have become one of the most extraordinary civilizations in history without it. It is the longest river in the world, stretching from Sudan to the Mediterranean Sea, and people have depended upon its banks for agriculture since ancient times. Nearly all the cultural and historical sites of ancient Egypt are found along the banks of the Nile which still support those who live along it. To see the land of Egypt as its people do, one must take to this magnificent river.
