Malta: Europe's best diving destination

Voted Europe’s Best Diving Destination (Diver magazine, 2009), the Maltese Islands are now firmly established on the international diving enthusiasts’ map and more British tourists are choosing Malta and Gozo for their diving holiday.

The Maltese Islands are a year-round divers' paradise boasting crystalline waters, reefs, caves and wrecks making them one of the most interesting dive sites in the Mediterranean. Sea temperatures rarely drop lower than 13 degrees Celsius, ideal for winter diving holidays.

The calmness of the sea ensures excellent underwater visibility down to 30 metres and the wildlife risk is extremely low making it the ultimate location for first-timers.

Dive sites are easily accessible from relatively every area of the island and are clustered near each other. Depths vary from the shallow 12 metre Ghar Lapsi dive to the more challenging Lantern Point which takes expert divers to an underwater tunnel leading down 50 metres.

Several scuba diving courses and activities are organised by Malta's licensed diving schools from where visitors can hire all the necessary equipment. The Malta Tourism Authority has recently become a British Sub Aqua Club (BSAC) travel partner, offering BSAC members exclusive deals on diving holidays to the Maltese Islands.
