New tourist areas

The main tourist areas in Gran Canaria are located in the South which is the sunniest of the Island.

The mountains of the interior act as a barrier against the clouds that come from the North, with the result that the Southern skies remain clear practically all year round.

The well known areas are Playa de Ingles, Maspalomas, Puerto Rico and Mogán. But in the last years the coastline of Gran Canaria has been improved in order to transform the Island into a modern and quality destination which allows visitors to stay in wonderful natural surroundings while enjoying the best standard of service.

MASPALOMAS-MELONERAS AREA

The newly developed Meloneras is considered the Gran Canaria's biggest tourist area. It is close to Maspalomas - with its beautiful beach and 6km of white sand dunes - and has a conference centre, golf club, 4 and 5 star high-quality modern hotels such as Lopesan Group, Riu Hotels and H1O. The area also has a big promenade with bars, restaurants and boutiques

Maspalomas has also retained some of its original hotels; Seaside Hotels, for example, which is well known for its superb traditional service.

PUERTO RICO-AMADORES AREA

The new Amadores Beach is a perfect destination for families. Located near to Puerto Rico Gran Canaria, it has a fine sand beach closed by reefs with turquoise water. The ravine, shopping centre and the beach have all been designed with the highest respect for the environment and a stroll along the 3km ocean-front promenade to Puerto Rico is highly recommended.

PUERTO MOGÁN

Pretty Puerto de Mogán has beautiful gardens bursting with gloriously colourful plants and tasteful bars and restaurants. It's also known as “Little Venice” because of the numerous channels which pass under arches in the two-storey apartment buildings between the marina and the fishing harbour.

Within the last years the area behind the beach has been developed, with apartment buildings overlooking out the golden sand beach and beyond to the port and the Atlantic ocean. A couple of hundred metres back from the beach is the Cordial Mogan Playa Hotel which is as lovely as a botanical garden and perfect for a relaxing holiday.
